Description
USGS scientist monitoring Kilauea eruption. Kilauea is a volcano on the main island of Hawaii. An eruptive episode began in May 2018, known as the 2018 lower Puna eruption. As part of their monitoring work, Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) geologists, part of the United States Geological Survey (USGS), collect samples of volcanic spatter for laboratory analysis. The results help explain what is happening inside the Kilauea volcano. Photographed at 10:35 on 6 May 2018, at fissure 10, near the intersection of Malama and Pomaikai Streets in Leilani Estates.
